Which would be more fuel efficient for a road trip?

Q: I'm driving to Springfield, MO from Chicago tomorrow. My question is, "Would I save more money in gas if I drove my 2004 Chevy Cavalier which has 125000 miles or my AWD Envoy 2003 that has 80000 miles? (p.s) I would drive the Envoy on 2wd rather than using all four.) Thanks- I know the MPG of my vehicles- however I was wondering does lesser mileage equate as being more fuel efficient than a vehicle with higher miles regardless of the MPG.

A: Clearly the Cavalier should get better gas mileage than your Envoy regardless of AWD or 2WD. The average 2003 2WD Envoy gets 17.6 mpg The average 2004 Cavalier gets 27.1 mpg Your vehicles could vary significantly based on your driving habits and how much load they are carrying. But all things being equal you are MUCH better off in terms of mpg driving the Cavalier.
