Q: i want to go to moscow or st petersburg i am a little conserned i heard about the racism over there. do you think i will be alright i am mixed but my skin is brown(goldenish). well i dont want any probs over there. but i like the language and russian americans so i think i will like russians.
A: Well, honestly, my husband is Armenian and him and his family have lots of problems there due to racial discrimination. They look more like middle eastern than anything, but they are called black. There are a lot of areas they can not go to because it isn't safe. When I went to Russia there were no black people at all - even in the airport in Moscow. The only 2 black people we saw were from africa and were making money by dressing up in african tribal clothes and taking pictures with tourists (they really couldn't get other jobs). I would say personally since you are a girl, if I was you I wouldn't go. If you were a guy I would say go with friends. Maybe if you went in a group like from school or something and were in a big group all the time. Honestly, I wouldn't risk it. There are lots of skin heads there that attack people of different races - it doesn't have to be black either, like I said, the middle easterners have the same problem. Since you have darker skin, I would only go with a large group and never be alone.
